I am a guitarist, songwriter and music educator. This site is primarily dedicated to my songwriting, which I've done off and on for twenty years or so. Writing and creating music is a true labor of love for me, a way to explore my wide ranging musical interests and to express myself. Put another way, writing and recording original music has not been a commercial pursuit for me but rather a purely artistic one, which accounts for the personal and eclectic nature of much of the music you will find here.

Teaching is a labor of love too, though it is also how I earn my keep. I teach guitar (and music) from my home studio and at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts. My students learn technique, theory, ear training and repertoire. All genres and styles are welcomed and validated, and all can be understood using the same fundamentals-based approach. My goal is to help students discover ease, clarity and purpose in their music making, ultimately empowering them to become the artists they seek to become.

Performing is the other facet of my musical life. Over the past twenty years I have played in bluegrass bands, classical quartets, jazz combos and rock, pop and blues outfits. I can usually be heard playing a few nights a week in and around my home city of Winston Salem, North Carolina. Current projects include Siren Series Jazz, a vocal jazz combo with a community outreach mission, and Ears to the Ground, an eclectic event band devoted to bringing the party and spreading good vibes. I am also a member of Doug Davis and Radio Silence, a rootsy Americana act, and I perform with noted songwriter/up-and-coming pop diva Cashavelly.

If you have an interest in taking lessons, either in person or remotely, or in booking live music, please reach out, I would love to hear from you!
